Eiga-Jin will be hosting “Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence” on December the 28th! This movie, directed by Nagisa Oshima, features actors such as David Bowie and Takeshi Kitano (known for Sonatine, Hana-bi and more). The soundtrack is composed by Ryuichi Sakamoto and features vocals by David Sylvian (singer for Japan). This 1983 movie is about prisoners of war in Japan during the second world war, and is based on the real experiences of a soldier. Finding common ground between different cultures and soldiers (and peace) is a major theme. It is a movie that was a hit in both Japan and in the west, and we hope to see you join us in watching it together!
